How to Set Up KMail to Gmail

KMail is the e-mail client of the KDE desktop environment.
It supports folders, filtering, viewing HTML mail, and international character sets. It can handle IMAP, dIMAP, POP3, and local mailboxes for incoming mail. It can send mail via SMTP or sendmail.
This Article describes how to configure KMail for work for gmail. First, you must have enabled pop and smtp on your gmail server. Then, you can set up KMail.

[edit] Open Settings
- Click on Settings and choose "Configure KMail"

- Add a New Account
[edit] Select Type Of Server
- Select POP3 then press Ok
[edit] Configure your Login
- Account Name: Enter a name for this configuration.
- Login: Your Gmail login.
- Password: Enter here your password.
- Host: POP server from Gmail.
If you select "Store POP password" Kmail don't ask you for a password when check your mailbox. Configure rest of options for your convenience. Next, click on "Extras" tab. Select options like These:
- Select Tab "Extras" then check this options: "Use SSL for secure mail downloads" and Authentication method, "Clear Text". Next, press "ok".
[edit] Configure Sending
- Select Tab "Sending" then click "Add" button.
In this form, you can configure server for sending mails trough gmail stmp.
- Name: The name of this configuration.
- Host: smtp host of Gmail smtp server, enter: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: Port of Gmail smtp server, enter 465.
Select "Advanced" Tab.
- Select "Server require authentication"
- Enter your e-mail on "login" and your password on "password"
- Select "Plain authentication"
- Press Ok.
Now, your KMail client is able to send an receive mail trough Gmail.
